NBBA In-Town League -- Summary of Playing Rules

All Grades

  • Overtime, if necessary will be 3 minutes. Continue playing 3-minute Overtimes until one team wins.
  • All players should play equal time, including any overtime periods.
    • If you have fewer than 10 players, spread the extra time out as best as you can.  A single player should not pick up all the additional minutes.
    • If you intend to play a player less than half the game because of disciplinary reasons (i.e. not showing up to practice), make the opposing coaches aware before the start of the game.  Note:  Rewarding a player for working hard at practice at the expense of another play who has been at all the practices is not in the spirit of In-Town NBBA play.
  • Players are disqualified after 5 personal fouls.
    • A player is also disqualified after 2 technical fouls.  However, coaches should strongly consider sitting for the remainder of the game, any player who receives a technical foul for unsportsmanlike conduct.
  • If a player or coach is ejected from a game for whatever reason, that player/coach is automatically suspended for the next game.
  • Each team will be allotted three (3) timeouts per game (max two per half) and one timeout in overtime.  Unused timeouts are not carried over to overtime.

Additional Rules for 7th & 8th Grade Games

  • Zone defense, traps, double-teams and full-court presses are allowed.
    • Teams leading by more than 15 points cannot full court press.
    • Zone defense only allowed in 1st and 3rd quarters
  • รข€‹3-point field goals are allowed.

Additional Rules for 5th & 6th Grade Games

  • Half-court man-to-man defense, except in the last two minutes of the half and the game
    • Teams leading by more than 10 must play half-court man-to-man defense.
  • Help defense on players penetrating the lane is okay, but no double-teaming outside
  • Players shooting foul shots can cross over the line prior to the ball hitting the rim, but a player who does so cannot grab his own rebound.
  • 3-point field goals are not allowed; Any shots made beyond 3-pt line are only worth 2 pts.
